The Knee Jerks Podcast - Eno, Nick and Big Al

Jan 25, 2023

Detroit sports bloggers and podcasters Greg Eno and Big Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks!

Big Al has returned to Michigan after spending 2 weeks playing cards in a Florida retirement community. Which means The Knee Jerks Podcast is back after a month-long hiatus.

Our first guest in 2023 is an old friend - NBA stats guru Siddy Hall. As the NBA season reaches the halfway mark, Siddy gives us his thoughts on the Pistons' season long struggles while also finding some positives, makes a case for Dwayne Casey being the best coach for the current situation, discusses possible trade deadline moves and asks a long suffering fan base to remain patient during the rebuild.

The second half of the show is all Greg and Al, topics include:

A complete Detroit Lions season post mortem

The Lions finished their season on a low note, as they narrowly missed the playoffs. But it also ended on a high note, knocking Aaron Rodgers and the Packers out of the playoffs on national TV.

Ending the season with an emotional victory may have been the best way to wrap up a wild year.

The Lions' rebuild is ahead of schedule. But who stays, and who goes?

Expectations for the 2023 season are extremely high, with their floor being a division title and a home playoff game. Unfortunately, the Lions are long known for their inability to live up to increased expectations. It's up to Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell to change the SOL narrative.

Are the Detroit Red Wings and captain Dylan Larkin at a contract impasse? Time is running out on completing a contract extension and GM Steve Yzerman has a history of dealing free-agents-to-be who don't fit his salary structure or timeline.

It's more likely Larkin stays, and the team moves on from Tyler Bertuzzi.

Red Wings won their gamble of waiving top six forward Jakub Vrana and goalie Alex Nedeljkovic, as neither were picked up.

The Detroit Tigers dealt closer Gregory Soto to the Philadelphia Phillies, essentially receiving Philly’s post season bench in return.

For the second time since Comerica Park opened, the Tigers are decreasing the size of the outfield.

We also play the Birthday Game and name our respective Jerk of the Week!
