The Knee Jerks Podcast - Eno, Nick and Big Al

Sep 15, 2020

Long-time Detroit sports bloggers and podcasters Greg Eno and Big Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks! Our pandemic induced hiatus is over, and we have a lot to get off our respective chests!

Along with our Jerk of the Week, topics for this show include:

What did we do during lockdown? Unlike many, we were both lucky enough to stay safe at home, but it also turns out we didn't miss sports all that much. That does not bode well for the future of professional sports.

For all the talk the 2020 Detroit Lions are different, blowing a 17 point 4th quarter lead to the Bears says otherwise.. Even if D’Andre Swift doesn’t drop what would have been a game winning TD pass, it wouldn’t excuse the fact the Lions bungled away a huge lead in a 27-23 loss.

Matt Patricia's Lions record is now 9-23-1, and has more blown 4th quarter leads than victories. Always arrogant to a fault, when asked if coaching was to be blamed for the continued late game collapses, Patricia responded by taking credit for what he called the best fourth quarter calls ever in Super Bowl 49.

After a 10 month layoff, Matthew Stafford was Matthew Stafford - Long stretches of good to great play with a couple of catastrophically bad 4th quarter decisions which would play a huge part in the loss.

Who was the Lions most effective player? 35-year-old Adrian Peterson. Didn't see that coming.

The next 3 games may be a job defining gauntlet for Patricia - The Packers and Cardinals on the road, the Saints at home., The Lions could easily start the season 0-4.

The TV networks used pumped in, un-nuanced, outright loud crowd noise, which made for an annoying, unpleasant broadcast.

The Detroit Tigers may not be in the playoff hunt, but by finally playing the kids they have become interesting. Of course, the jury remains out on many of the Tigers' prospects. While some players are running out of time to prove themselves (Christin Stewart). others have stepped up and may be part of a future contender (Jeimer Candelario).
