The Knee Jerks Podcast - Eno, Nick and Big Al

Mar 8, 2023

Detroit sports bloggers and podcasters Greg Eno and Big Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks!

It's all Knee Jerks on The Knee Jerks Podcast! No guest, but we do have a ton of Detroit Red Wings discussion on the docket.

This week's topics include:

Steve Yzerman had a busy, busy, busy trade deadline. He signed three players to new deals, while shipping four others out of town for draft capital.

Yzerman admitted this year's Red Wings were not going to be a playoff team. His plan all along was to sell off players for a ton of draft capital, regardless.

In a literal offer he couldn't refuse, Yzerman flipped Filip Hronek to the Canuks for 1st and 2nd round draft picks.

Yzerman admitted Tyler Bertuzzi wasn't going to be re-signed, making it an easy decision to send him to the Bruins for a 1st round pick.

We may never know what happened between Jakub Vrana and the Red Wings, but it says volumes that the Wings gave him to the Blues for essentially nothing (a 7th round draft pick) AND still had to retain salary. The Wings could not get rid of Vrana soon enough.

Our Detroit nightmare is over, as Dylan Larkin finally signed a long-term deal with the Red Wings.

As the rebuild continues, could the Red Wings caught in a Pistons-esque treadmill of mediocrity? They desperately need an impact wing or center, who are most often found at the top of the draft. But the Wings are too good to finish high in the lottery, yet not good enough to be anything more than a playoff bubble team.

The new MLB pitch clock works, having lopped 20 minutes off spring training games. Anything speeding up the pace of play is a good thing. Baseball does not need human rain delays or LOOGYs.

This season the Detroit Tigers will start weeknight night games at 6:40 PM. We're old enough to remember when the first pitch of a Tigers regular season night game would be at 8PM.

All RSNs are teetering on the brink of a financial disaster. This could end up being a very good thing for the fan at large if it leads to MLB taking over TV production and lifting blackout restrictions.

NFL QBs are getting PAID. When Danny Dimes is getting $40 million a season and Geno Smith $35 million, the Lions may need to back up the Brinks truck to Jared Goff's back door....or select his heir apparent in the upcoming draft.

We also play the Birthday Game and name our respective Jerk of the Week!
