The Knee Jerks Podcast - Eno, Nick and Big Al

Dec 29, 2021

Long-time Detroit sports bloggers and podcasters Greg Eno and Big Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks! The year may be coming to an end, but The Knee Jerks will go on and on, covering all things Detroit sports.

This week's topics include:

Everyone and everything, especially sports, have been adversely affected by the omicron COVID variant. The NHL has been far more cautious compared to the NFL and NBA, who are trying to power thru their seasons, even if it means seeing a worse product

As for college football, it's COVID chaos. A bowl game being cancelled due to a COVID outbreak has become a daily occurrence. It's only a matter of when, not if, the playoff teams are affected

It was long past time college players started treating D1 football as a business, just as coaches, administrators, schools, the NCAA, and their media partners do. Sitting out a bowl game is a business decision, no more, no less.

Since the Turkey Day debacle, the Lions are 2-2 and no longer look like a historically bad team, just run-of-the-mill bad

When asked about Jared Goff possibly being Lions’ long-term QB, head coach Dan Campbell said, “I don’t see why not.” This is much ado about nothing, despite the breathless reporting

What happened to Jim Caldwell's dungeon of doom? The local media are covering the Lions with Honolulu blue and silver colored glasses

The Tigers reportedly offered Carlos Correa a 10-year, $275M contract. The tendered deal was obviously leaked in an attempt to appease a disappointed fan base. Much like the Max Scherzer extension offer, the below market deal was performative. As in, “Hey, we tried" (shoulder shrug)

MLB owners, who refuse to open their books and have sold their souls to gambling, have locked out the players. And yes, you should be on the side of the players

Greg excoriates Lebron James for an Instagram post which implies "COVID," "cold" and "flu," are basically the same illness, while praising Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for calling out James' BS

Al points out the hypocrisy of the Brooklyn Nets for changing their tune in regard to noted idiot and anti-vaxxer Kyrie Irving. After telling him to stay home because using him as a part-time player (due to vaccine mandates, Irving can only play road games, not at home in NYC or in Toronto) would be detrimental to team chemistry, they changed their tune once their season didn't go as anticipated
