Long time Detroit podcasters and bloggers Greg Eno and Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks!
Eno and Big Al return from a longer than expected hiatus to discuss all things bad - namely what's happening with the Detroit Red Wings, Tigers and Lions - and the one surprisingly good and entertaining team, the surging Detroit Pistons.
Along with playing the Birthday Game and naming our the Jerk of the Week, this week's topics include:
A sad day in Hockeytown - Red Wings great NHL Hall of Fame member and leader of the player union movement Ted Lindsay died at age 93.
So much for Team Tank - 12-2 since February 1 and winners of 5 straight, the 34-31 Detroit Pistons are the hottest team in the NBA, playing themselves into the playoff picture. But are you ready to buy into this suddenly entertaining, but still flawed, team?
Addition by subtraction - The Pistons surged in the standings after dealing Reggie Bullock and Stanley Johnson, opening up playing time for Luke Kennard, Langston Galloway and Wayne Ellington, who have been shooting lights out from the 3 point line.
The Big 1 are now the Big 3 - The Pistons run not coincidentally started when Andre Drummond started playing strictly to his strengths and Reggie Jackson rediscovered the 2015-16 version of himself, forming a true Big 3 with an All-NBA level Blake Griffin.
The Tigers sign a legit big league 2nd baseman - Former 2-time All Star Josh Harrison joined the Tigers, inking a 1-year, $2 million incentive laden contract.
Time to worry about Michael Fulmer? The 2016 Rookie of the Year once had a fastball that hit 97 on the gun. But his 3rd knee surgery this past off season forced a change in his delivery, reducing velocity. During Fulmer's 3rd Lakeland start, that fastball was now sitting at 88-92 MPH
Nicholas Castellanos having second thoughts - Word out of Lakeland has the Tigers' right fielder now interested in negotiating a contract extension. Being he brings more to the Tigers than he would anther team and having see veteran free agents get smaller and shorter deals, this should not be a surprise to anyone.
Is Lions' GM Bob Quin preparing to make a splash in free agency? It appears so. By releasing 3 starters (Glover Quin, TJ Lang, Nevin Lawson) the Lions are now more than $45 million under the salary cap. With numerous roster holes to fill, free agency and the draft just became far more interesting for Lions fans.
