Long-time Detroit sports bloggers and podcasters Greg Eno and Big Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks! We're still sheltered in our respective places and coronavirus free, yet It's been almost 6 weeks since we last met. As promised, we're back to talk Detroit Lions and the NFL Draft, wax rhapsodic about 80's NBA and ridicule the numerous reopening plans pro leagues are throwing against the wall in hope something sticks.
Along with the Jerk of the Week, topics for this show include:
ESPNs 30 for 30 documentary "The Last Dance" spent a good portion of episodes 3 and 4 on Dennis Rodman and reliving the bitter Chicago Bulls - Detroit Pistons rivalry. We learned the Bad Boys live rent-free in Michael Jordan's head to this day. It was also the sort of hate-filled playoff series we'll never see again.
Desperate to collect TV money, various pro leagues are throwing any and all reopening plans against the wall to see if anything sticks, player and employee health be damned. Every single option has so many moving parts, requiring every possible thing to go right, its hard to believe any plan will be successful without a proven vaccine. As for NCAA football and minor league sports, your guess is as good as ours as to when, or more correctly if, they return.
The NFL went back to their roots with a remote draft, which went surprisingly well. It was weird, but also a needed respite from our current reality.
The Detroit Lions draft received overall good grades, but much of it was spent filling self-created roster holes at corner and guard. IT also remains to be seen if it was smart use of draft capital to once again spend a second round draft pick on a running back when there are still glaring holes in a league worst defense.
Announcement: We've yet to set a date for the next show. We'll be back when there more to discuss, so it could be 2 weeks, could be 8. So keep an eye on our social media for updates! Please be safe and stay inside if at all possible. For those of you who have to work, we appreciate your sacrifice. We'll be back!
