Jan 12, 2022

Long-time Detroit sports bloggers and podcasters Greg Eno and Big Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks! This week we welcome a special guest, Ron Mott Ron, formerly a regular contributor to Today, NBC Nightly News, and MSNBC, now runs a passion project, the sports newsletter SPORTSOPOLY.

In a wide ranging discussion, Ron talks about his past as a broadcast journalist, the future of journalism, his pivot to writing a sports newsletter, and gives his thoughts on COVID's affect on sports, the college football playoffs, the huge influx of money seen by the NCAA and NIL rights.

In the second half of the show, topics include:

Nick Lidstrom returns to the Detroit Red Wings as Steve Yzerman's VP of Hockey Operations.

A Detroit Lions season postmortem.

The Lions suddenly appear to be the most stable franchise in the NFC North.

Lions' head coach Dan Campbell entered the season as a meathead who was best known for his "bite kneecaps" quote. He ended the season highly praised and the face of the franchise.

Jared Goff played damn well to end the season. No question he is the QB of the present, but the jury is still out when it comes to the future.

The Lions fired OC Anthony Lynn  on Black Monday, Campbell saying, "It just wasn’t a fit." Meanwhile, the Broncos have requested an interview with DC Aaron Glenn for their head coach position.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has leverage, and he won't be afraid to play the school against any NFL offers.

The guys also play The Birthday Game and name their respective Jerk of the Week.
