The Knee Jerks Podcast - Eno, Nick and Big Al

Jul 1, 2019

Long time Detroit podcasters and bloggers Greg Eno and Al Beaton are The Knee Jerks!

Greg and Big Al return with plenty of hot takes on the draft and free agency moves with the Detroit Pistons, Steve Yzerman's first draft as GM of the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers' fast moving downward spiral into the race for the worst record in MLB.

Along with playing the birthday game and naming the Jerks of the Week, topics include:

The Pistons sign former NBA MVP Derrick Rose: The Pistons inked the talented, but oft-injured, point guard to a 2-year, $15M free agent contact. Considering the monopoly money being thrown at lesser players (Ricky Rubio got $50M?!), the Pistons filled a large backcourt hole for a relative pittance.

Ed Stefanski takes a swing for the NBA draft fences: The Pistons' Senior Advisor made numerous draft day moves, ultimately ending up with a veteran starting small forward in Tony Snell and 3 high ceiling/low floor draft picks, including 18-year-old French forward Sekou Doumbouya.

Steve Yzerman gets the benefit of the doubt: Red Wings' GM made waves by selecting 18-year-old German defenseman Moritz Seider 6th overall, when almost every mock had him pegged as a mid to late 1st rounder. Of course, if former GM Ken Holland had gone off the board as Yzerman did, the pitchfork and torches would have been at the ready. But Stevie Y's Tampa track record has deservedly earned him the benefit of the doubt.

A bad baseball team getting worse: The Tigers are 5-20 (.200 winning percentage) for the month of June, they are 28th or worse in every significant offensive category, Jack Morris says there is no leadership or accountability in the locker room, an emo Nicholas Castellanos vents to the media, and Miguel Cabrera's on-field decline and clubhouse  toxicity hits warp speed.
